What do you want to achieve in your away-day or event?

Starting with the end in mind helps in deciding between the many options.

And we know that the environment - the atmosphere, the food, what you can see, what kind of space you have - has a huge impact on outcomes because it affects how people learn and behave.

So, if your intent is to foster a corporate approach, run a traditional conference or provide a lot of teaching or data, then there are probably more appropriate venues than The Waterside.

However, if your focus is on more deeply connecting your team, or enabling creative exchange on an equal footing, then we know that The Waterside works well.

Coastal Housing decided to hold our two-day senior team away day at The Waterside for two very compelling reasons, people and place. The environment at The Waterside meant that we genuinely switched off from the “noise” of the day job and focused more deeply and effectively on building our strategic vision for our future, and getting to know each other as a team, and secondly because of the skills Sue offered us as a very skilled listener, who designed our ambitious two days with both empathy and intelligence, to cover a lot of ground. Often clients also make use of the wider valley - including walks around the lake or along the green paths - as part of their programme. The alpacas are always curious about our visitors…

The Long Room is a spacious self-contained building by the lakeside, easily accessible from the car park. You’ll find comfortable seating, good working area, a log-burning stove, plus inspiration from the view, the books and the artwork! Technology is on hand - wifi, smart tv if you want them - but not dominating.

Fresh Coaltown Coffee, Welsh tea and homemade cakes are provided throughout the day. We can also provide a simple, fresh lunch prepared in the farmhouse, or you can bring your own (but please note we don’t have cooking facilities in the Long Room, though there are fridges in the servery area). We have been rated 5* for food hygiene.

Practical matters

The Waterside is ideal for small to group work and can accommodate larger groups for more structured events.

We are also open to your using The Waterside to offer training to your own clients. If appropriate we can also promote your event via our social media.

We want to make The Waterside accessible for people who really care about what they do and want to make a distinctive and significant difference. Therefore we charge a simple flat rate of £200 per day plus £5 per head for all light refreshments. If you would like lunch and fresh fruit, this is an additional £10 per head.
